About the Course
The agriculture, biotechnology, and agricultural biotechnology sectors together form a key pillar of India’s economy, contributing around 17% to the GDP and providing livelihoods to over 65% of the population. These fields are evolving rapidly through plant biotechnology, tissue culture, disease and stress-resistant crop development, modern farming techniques, and the rising demand for organic produce. The focus today is on producing high-quality crops with maximum efficiency in limited land, water, and space, both in rural and urban environments, to meet the growing needs of the population.
The B.Sc (Hons) in Agriculture Biotechnology is a uniquely designed programme combining managerial knowledge, scientific expertise, and technical skills. Students learn effective budgeting and cost control, analytical and technical procedures, legal compliance, and modern technocratic and scientific applications in agriculture and biotechnology. The curriculum also integrates local and global agricultural policy frameworks, offering a truly interdisciplinary understanding of current practices, technologies, and challenges.
By 2026, India’s average age will be just 29 years, making it the youngest nation in the world. In the coming decade, economic growth is expected to create 500 million new jobs, of which 75% will be skill-based—and nearly half will be in agriculture, biotechnology, and agricultural biotechnology. Being recognised among the best agriculture colleges in Kolkata and West Bengal, Gurukul Edutech College offers this degree to open three-fold career opportunities in all three fields. Graduates can work in industry, research, and government or establish their own entrepreneurial ventures.
